Domain Name
GoDaddy is our preferred domain host because they have the best customer service, simplest to setup and are the most reliable.
- Go to GoDaddy's website: First, open your internet browser and go to GoDaddy's website
- Sign Up/Sign In: If you’re new to GoDaddy, click on the 'sign up' button to create an account. If you already have an account, then click on the 'Sign In' button.
- Search for a Domain: After logging in, in the Homepage, you will find a search bar. Enter the domain name you want to register in the bar and hit the 'Search Domain' button.
- Choose a Domain: If the domain name you want is available, you can add it to your cart. If it's not available, GoDaddy will provide alternatives you can choose from.
- Add to Cart: Once you've chosen your domain name, click on the 'Add to Cart' button.
- Select Domain Period: Next, choose the period for which you want to register your domain. You typically have options ranging from 1 to 10 years.
- Add-On Services: GoDaddy will then offer you additional services like privacy protection, website builder, and email accounts. These are optional. You can select them based on your needs.
- Go to Checkout: Once you’ve made your selections, click 'Continue to Cart'. Review the order on the cart page and proceed to the checkout.
- Make Payment: Provide the necessary payment details at checkout. GoDaddy accepts Debit/Credit cards and PayPal. Review your order one last time, then click the 'Place Your Order' option.
- Confirm Registration: After successful payment, you will receive an email confirmation.
- Manage Domain: Go to your account's 'Manage My Domains' section to access your new domain. Remember, after setting up the domain, you will need to connect it to a website or parking page.
- Set up DNS (Optional): If you are pointing your domain to a website hosted elsewhere, you must set up DNS. Navigate to the DNS Management page, here, you can edit records to point to your website hosting service.
- Set Up Email (Optional): If you've purchased an email service with your domain, you can also set this up in the 'Manage My Domains' section.
Remember, buying a domain name doesn't automatically make your website appear when visitors enter it into a web browser - this all occurs once you've built the site in the Small Business Digital Website Builder and set up the DNS to point to your site.
In the case of hosting your website on the Small Business Digital platform, once you have got your website ready for the public, you only need to add an A record and point your domain name to that server (this information is in your domain settings in the website builder) and then purchase your domain SSL through the Small Business Platform and update with an another A record to verify and connect your SSL.
